The subject of the Research Centre’s activities is to acquire scientific knowledge, which using physical-acoustic measurements and psychoacoustic methodology, will broaden understanding of timbre of classical musical instruments and human voices, thus providing a basis for future industrial research on musical instruments. The project focuses on areas where timbre is inextricably linked to quality, thus to makers of musical instruments and institutions dealing with acoustic and electroacoustic signal transfer. Bringing together different research sites at the Centre will concentrate capacities in Czech musical acoustics. Experienced and young researchers, a technical and consultative base of musicians and manufacturers will coordinate basic and applied research, and eliminate duplication of activities and equipment. Its unique focus will contribute to concentrating musical acoustic research in Europe, which in the form of an elite European centre does not exist to date.
